Writing Action Scenes, City Books, Sunday, 30. June 2019

This workshop, taught by Samantha L. Barrett, will focus on how to write clear and compelling action in fiction. We’ll take a look at different types of action, from a character walking across a room to driving in a car to defending themselves in an epic fight scene, and discuss how to handle different scenarios. We’ll discuss how to make slow action build toward more exciting action, and how to write the exciting stuff without getting bogged down in details. By the end, you will have a better understanding of what separates action from other aspects of writing, as well as how to write the different types of it in your own work.
Girls Write Pittsburgh is a local organization dedicated to inspiring youth to find their voices through writing. This pop-up workshop is free and open to all non-binary and girl-identifying teens between the ages of 13 to 18.
