Utah Master Naturalist Mountain Adventures Course - Utah's Hogle Zoo, Utah's Hogle Zoo, Wednesday, 07. August 2019

This Mountain Adventures course will be taught by Utah's Hogle Zoo educators, and will be based at the Education Building.  Class times are 9am-5pm starting Tuesday, August 7, and ending Thursday, August 9.
You will be given access to the Mountain Adventures online course one month before the start of this field course, and you will be required to complete the online course before attending the field course.
This is an ***** education program that is open to participants 18 years of age and older.  Exceptions for teens as young as 15 may be made if a parent/guardian is also registering for the course.  Please email Mark Larese-Casanova at marklc@ you would like to bring a child as young as 15.
Course DescriptionSome of the greatest ecological diversity and scenic beauty in Utah exists in the forest and alpine environments. Throughout these ecosystems, temperature, elevation, and precipitation play an important role in defining plant and animal communities and their interactions. Come join us while we explore these systems and learn about how they function, the plants and animals that live there, and how they are managed.  Class size is small in order to maximize your opportunities for learning and having fun!
Each Utah Master Naturalist course consists of 40 hours of instruction, with approximately 16 hours covered in the online course, and the remaining 24 hours spent outdoors in a field course.  Field course activities will include instructor-led discussions, guest presentations on relevant resource issues, small group activities, and open discussions.
Due to the nature of the Mountain Adventures course, we will be walking and hiking over uneven terrain, often in rocky environments.  While we do our best to accommodate people of all abilities, please contact Mark at marklc@usu.edu if you have any concerns.  Participants should be comfortable hiking in steep terrain.
Course MaterialsAll course materials are available for download here.  It is highly recommended that you read them before the start of the course.
Course FeesThe $225 registration fee covers the cost of both the online course ($50) and the field course ($175).  There is an option to register for four (4) USU continuing education credits (CEUs) for an additional recording fee of $120 on the first day of the field course.  Students may pay tuition and register for WATS 6900 to earn three (3) USU graduate credits for each Utah Master Naturalist course.
RefundsIf you are unable to join us for any reason, we can refund your registration fee if you cancel at least one week prior to the start of the course. Cancelling less than one week prior to the course results in a refund of 50% of the registration fee.  We are unable to issue any refund if a registered participant is a no-show at the start of the course.
