Using Growth Mindset Strategies for Writing! (4th & 5th graders), The StudyPro, Saturday, 25. April 2020

No matter how much we want to maintain a Growth Mindset, writing can be tough!  Whether it’s getting started, knowing what to write about, figuring out where to take a story, or being open to editing our own work, writing can put anyone on the brink of giving up.  During our  'Growth Mindset for Writing' workshop, we will explore different types of writing, understand that writing isn’t just “one thing”, and practice ideas to get started when you are stuck in any of the parts of writing.

The objectives of this workshop are to:

Help each child identify their personal inspiration for writing.
Learn that writing is not “one thing”, but has components – some are easier for us than others; we may have different levels mastery of each.
Understand that “strategies” are different tips, tricks, and approaches for pushing through those aspects of writing that are more challenging.
Develop personal “strategies” for how to succeed in all parts of writing and adopt ways to get “unstuck” when we do.

A growth mindset is a belief that we can get smarter through hard work and practice. Having a growth mindset means understanding that intelligence can be developed vs. the belief that it is fixed (either I’m good at writing or not).

We want our students to understand that struggling with something difficult doesn’t mean you're not smart; instead, it’s a chance to grow your intelligence by using the right strategies!
This is a free workshop, however, it is limited to 30 students.
