Join The Society of Virginia for social events that celebrate everything GREAT about Virginia!
The Society of Virginia is one of the oldest state societies, founded November 8, 1923 and is a member of the National Conference of State Societies (NCSS). We enjoy many social, cultural, equestrian and other activities together -- people celebrating everything great about Virginia!

Unique to Washington, DC, state societies serve as social and civicorganizations that celebrate the culture, history, traditions, and people ofeach respective state through outstanding events such as the NationalCherry Blossom Festival and Presidential Inaugural events. State societyorganizations are nonpartisan and bring together people from all walks oflife – Members of Congress, military staff, and business and civic leaders-- through fellowship and goodwill.
The Society of Virginia advises the Governor on Social, Cultural andIndividual matters regarding the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our uniqueheritage and history lend themselves to our primary effort: selecting andsupporting the Society's Cherry Blossom Princess.  We work closely withthe National Conference of State Societies (NCSS) to plan, coordinate, and promote the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The NCSS CherryBlossom Grand Ball and Parade are among the foremost events in theDC Metro area.
Since 1948, State and Territorial Societies along with many Embassiesand Consulates in Washington, DC have enabled more than 3,000young women leaders from across the United States and world toparticipate in this program and the celebration of the unique andenduring friendship between the United States and Japan. As CherryBlossom Princesses, these young women represent their respective states, territories, and countries in both public and private events held each day across the Washington, DC area and engage with leading government, business, arts, and media leaders and role models. In thepast decade alone, the Cherry Blossom Princesses have met with former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan; First Daughter Ivanka Trump, Ambassador of Japan Shinsuke J. Sugiyama, First Lady Laura Bush; President of the Kennedy Center Deborah Rutter; Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi; U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, and Senator Lisa Murkowski, herself a former Cherry Blossom Princess. And we are proud to claim that three of our Virginia Princesses have served as U.S. Cherry Blossom Queens, including the 2018 Cherry Blossom Queen, Margaret O'Meara!
Whether you are new or native to our Commonwealth, we welcome you to join our society as we celebrate everything GREAT about Virginia!
