Sips & Stanzas Presents A Soulful Celebration: Remembering the Life & Legacy of Jackie Shane, Renaissance Nashville Hotel (Ryman Room), Thursday, 21. March 2019

The mysterious, yet iconic Jackie Shane was extraordinary in many ways – musically and culturally. During the heyday of Nashville’s small but influential R&B scene, she made a name for herself, catching the attention of artists such as Little Richard, Jackie Wilson, and Jimi Hendrix. Growing up African American and transgender in the Jim Crow South, Shane rose to be a powerful soul singer and musical pioneer. In 1963, she scored the No. 2 spot on the Canadian singles chart with her silky cover of William Bell’s, “Any Other Way.” In 1971, she vanished, only to reappear in 2017 when the Chicago-based label Numero Group released her Grammy-nominated musical anthology. Join us as we honor and celebrate the legacy of Ms. Jackie Shane, a native Nashvillian and spectacular vocalist.
