Sip and Pour Ceramic Vessels with Miki Shim Rutter, Palo Alto Art Center, Saturday, 07. September 2019

In this two-day, hands-on workshop, participants will focus on developing their own pouring and sipping vessels through various techniques on the wheel and with clay slabs. This workshop is for intermediate- and advanced-level participants who want to further their skills, explore form development, and enhance finishing techniques. Beginners who can create a vessel without instruction will find this course challenging but are still welcome to participate.
The instructor will cover best practices for constructing teapot lids, spouts, and handles, focusing on functionality. Tips and tricks for successful glazing will be demonstrated.
Wheel participants will work on exploring teapot forms, lid fitting, throwing off the hump, handle designs, and making cups in a series.
Hand-building participants will work on customizing their design and concept, creating and using templates, and exploring surface texture.
Saturday and Sunday, September 7 and 8, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
$135    PAACF Members and Students$175   Non-Members
Registration includes one 25 lb. bag of Cone 10 stoneware clay. Additional clay will be available for purchase. Please bring clay tools and lunch for each day.
