Sexual Abuse Dynamics Full Series , Dallas Children's Advocacy Center, Wednesday, 28. November 2018

Target Audience: DCAC Staff and All Members of the Dallas County MDT from all disciplines
In a perfect world, every child abuse investigation would be easy to investigate and could be presented without imperfection on a silver platter to the district attorney's office for prosecution. From there, each case would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law without the child having to ever see the inside of the courtroom, juries would always do the right thing, and offenders would get their sentence and never again hurt a child. Unfortunately, that is not the reality.
Child sexual abuse cases are some of the hardest cases to investigate and prosecute. It is most often a crime of secrecy, isolation, manipulation, and extreme pre-meditation. The emotional effects of sexual abuse last far longer than the physical act and can affect victims for their entire life.
This five part series will discuss all the complicated dynamics of sexual abuse and how they affect whether or not children will disclose, when they disclose, and how they disclose. Participants will be armed with information that will help them evaluate children's statements and make case decisions that both protect children and seek justice for offenders.
Topics include:
Part 1: Basic Dynamics of Child Sexual Abuse and the Process of Disclosure
Part 2: Grooming Behavior and Its Effect on Disclosures
Part 3: Compliant Victims
Part 4: Recantation: When a Child Takes It Back
Part 5: Traumatic Effects and Treatment of Child Abuse
