Releasing Stress & Anxiety Playing the Native American Flute, Yoga Place, Saturday, 27. April 2019

You’ve heard the calm, relaxing sounds of the Native American Flute (NAF), probably in yoga classes. But did you know you can release your stress and anxiety through playing the NAF?
In this workshop, you will learn a 15-minute program, using meditation and playing the NAF, which you can use as a home practice, to release your anxiety and stress. In addition, you will learn ways to stimulate your creativity through improvisation, and use your program as a spiritual practice.
Gloria McAlister, M.Ed., LPCC-S, licensed clinical counselor and therapist, will teach you the physiology of how playing the NAF stimulates the Vagus nerve, triggering the relaxation response and releasing anxiety. Her knowledge comes from a store of wisdom accumulated during many years of exploring spiritual practices and 25 yrs. as a therapist.
Don Fulmer, NAF teacher and performer, as well as perpetual beginner creative, will teach the flute methods. Working with Certified Music Therapist Tom Yates to develop this program, Don will present a simple set of flute playing techniques, which have been demonstrated to be effective for releasing stress and anxiety,
You are required to furnish a Native American Flute. Key of A is preferred, but other Keys will work fine. If you have a flute you wish to use, and it is in a key other that A, please email Don at prior to the workshop so he can make the necessary adaptions for you to play with the ”A” flutes during the workshop.
