The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.

Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.

Successful completion of the online pre-work (see below for more information).

Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles are allowed.

Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.

Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The **** may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.

Surface dive feet-first or head-first to a depth of 7 to 10 feet, and retrieve a 10-pound object.

Return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the **** at or near the surface so rescuee to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.

Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

This class requires online pre-work. Once you have completed the required Lifeguard Prerequisite class and paid for this class, you will receive a link to the online pre-work.

We are excited to offer you American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended Learning. Blended Learning combines online learning and in-person skills sessions where you will practice skills and demonstrate competency. Please plan to complete all eLearning modules, including the CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers and First Aid Final eLearning exam, at least two days prior to your first in-person skills session. Most participants complete the eLearning portion of the course in approximately 7 hours. Your experience may vary widely based on several factors including your PC, internet speed and previous training. I recommend beginning the online session as soon as possible to ensure that you are able to complete all eLearning modules prior to the first in-person skill session. All online coursework must be completed before the first day of the Lifeguard Blended Learning class.
Please be prepared to provide your instructor with proof that you completed the online portion using one of the following methods:
·         Print your online course completion record available at the end of from the course and show it to your instructor – it will read “Proceed to Skill Session”
·         Show your instructor the email you received confirming completion of the online portion
·         Login to the online portion and show your instructor the completion status that appears above the  “Launch Course” button

Refund Policy:  
In the event you cancel your enrollment in a course, please notify the organizer in writing one week in advance of the course start date to receive a full refund minus a $25 processing fee to cover third party costs.  If you cancel your enrollment in the course less than one week prior to the course start date, your payment of the course will be forfeited.  Any fees forfeited are available to be applied toward a future course.
If you enroll in a lifeguarding course and you do not pass the swimming prerequisite you will receive a full refund, minus a $25 processing fee to cover third party costs. This forfeited processing fee is available to be applied toward a future course.

Refund Policy: To receive a full refund for a course that you cannot attend, you must submit a written request to our training department by mail, email, or fax. This request must be received by our office at least 2 weeks before the start of the registered course.  All refunds issued will be less any applicable transaction fees.  In the event you need to cancel your enrollment in the course with less than 2 weeks’ notice, then the payment of the course will be forfeited.
