EWF 2019: Writing the Personal Essay with Hannah Bae, Athenaeum, Lower Gallery, Saturday, 17. August 2019

The Emerging Writers Festival aims to celebrate, educate, and inspire emerging writers over three days of free and low-cost literary arts programming. Attendees will gain practical tools from business of publishing panels, create new work in generative writing workshops, and network with other members of the literary community. The aim of the festival is to connect emerging writers to new opportunities and skills so that they may sustainably grow their career - and life -  in the arts.
The Atheneum, Lower Gallery
A hands-on, generative writing intensive all about the personal essay. Come prepared to discover and dig in to the stories only you can tell. Leave with new writing and behind-the-scenes tips about pitching and publishing personal essays. 
Limited to 15 participants. Registration is open first to festival ticket holders (July-August), with remaining seats available for one-off purchase if spots remain (August 1-15th).

This essay workshop will be taught by Hannah Bae, a 2018-2019 Open City fellow in narrative nonfiction at the Asian American Writers' Workshop and the president of Asian American Journalists Association's New York chapter. Her writing has been published in the anthology (Don’t) Call Me Crazy: 33 Voices Start the Conversation on Mental Health and The Monocle Travel Guide to Seoul, and her bylines include CNN, Monocle, Eater, The Associated Press and more.
