Educate and Empower - DC, Dar Al Hijrah Islamic Center, Saturday, 05. October 2019

Join Mahmoud Abdul Rauf to help support girl's education in the Horn of Africa.
Somalia has one of the world’s lowest gross enrollment rates for primary school‐aged children with only 30 percent children at primary education level and 26 percent for secondary education. Newly published data from UNFPA suggest that the number of out‐of‐school children and youth aged 6‐18 years is at 3 million which is a significant increase compared to the previously estimated 1.7 mill out of school children (UN Relief Web Jan 2017)
Our keynote speaker will be Mahmoud Abdul Rauf. In 1991, he converted to Islam. In 1993, he changed his name from Chris Jackson to Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.
Abdul-Rauf was taken as the 3rd overall pick in the 1990 NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets. He twice led the league in free throw percentage and in 1993 he was named NBA Most Improved Player. In 586 career games, he averaged 14.6 points and 3.5 assists per game.
Join us for this special engagement and help us support a noble cause! Your participation will make a difference in the life of a child inshaAllah. Tickets are free and dinner will be provided inshaAllah.
