BEST Class: Bike 3 - Street Skills (Pomona), Day One Pomona, Saturday, 13. July 2019

Do you want to be more comfortable and confident when cycling on city roads? Have you taken our Bike 2 - Rules of the Road class and want to practice what you learned in a real-world setting? The Bike 3 - Street Skills Class, presented by Metro, the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, the Pomona Valley Bicycle Coalition, and Day One Pomona is a free 2.5-hour class for adults and teens to practice safe riding with a group of beginning cyclists. You’ll learn cycling etiquette, practice riding in a real-world setting, and make pit stops at local establishments to get refreshments.

Who Should Sign-Up:
If you are comfortable getting on a bike and want to gain more experience bicycling on city streets in a group setting. This ride will apply practical skills and critical thinking in real-world settings and will build off skills learned in the Bike 1 and Bike 2 level classes.

What You’ll Learn:

Biking on City Streets: Rules of the Road / Navigating Common Hazards / Group Etiquette / Sharing Paths and Trails

Biking and Transit: Riding around Transit / Taking bikes on trains and buses

Bike Services / Events Offered by Metro

What You’ll Need:

Please bring your bike in good working condition. We recommend getting a tune up at your local bike shop if you haven’t ridden your bike in a long time or if you aren’t sure that it’s working well.

All participants will get a free helmet and a set of bike lights.

Registration & Waivers:
Participants ages 16 and up may participate in this class. All participants must sign a waiver to participate; if the participant is under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must accompany the minor.

The Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) is a membership-based nonprofit organization that works to make all communities in LA County healthy, safe, and fun places to ride a bike through advocacy, education, and outreach.
The Pomona Valley Bicycle Coalition (PVBC) is a chapter of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) founded in March 2012. Our mission is to create better, more bike-able, and healthier streets for the residents in the Pomona Valley area and  to empower both pedestrians and cyclists to  make a positive impact and change in their local communities. We envision a healthier community where pedestrians and cyclists feel comfortable and secure on the streets, free of harm.
Pomona is ranked as the 18th most overweight/obese city in California and the 8th most overweight/obese city in Los Angeles County. Day One Pomona is currently working towards making Pomona a healthier city! Efforts include working with youth, residents and community partners to ensure the city makes healthy food available at city-sponsored events and meetings. We are also working to create more chances for physical activity and making the healthy choice the easy choice! Day One staff trains a group of youth to advocate for changes in their community and educate their peers and residents on how to make healthy choices and changes in their lives!
